Between June 20-24, 2022, the first international university nautical competition took place, celebrating the 150th anniversary of maritime education in Romania. The event was organized by "Mircea cel Batran" Naval Academy of Constanța, at the nautical base from Palazu Mare, on Lake Siutghiol. The competition started with six crews (yachting and kayaking) from "Mircea cel Bătrân" Naval Academy, "Dunărea de Jos" University of Galați, the Polish Naval Academy from Gdynia (Poland), the Military University of Technology from Warsaw (Poland), and the Nicola Vaptsarov Naval Academy in Varna, Bulgaria.


1.520 budgeted seats are available for the 2022 Admission at "Dunarea de Jos" University of Galati. Most budgeted seats go to the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy (263). The following are in descending order: Faculty of Economics and Business Administration (217), Faculty of Automation, Computer Sciences, Electrical Engineering and Electronics (190), Faculty of Engineering (150), Faculty of Engineering and Agronomy in Braila (103), Physical Education and Sports (100) and the Faculty of History, Philosophy and Theology (100).


"Dunarea de Jos" University of Galati has been with Ukrainian students and their collaborators in the southern part of Ukraine since the beginning of the conflict in the neighboring country. Also, "Al. I Cuza" student campus within the University has become home to over 7,000 Ukrainian refugees, this being one of the largest accommodation centers in Romania.


Under the higher education cooperation program between the Romanian Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Higher Education of the Republic of Cuba, "Dunarea de Jos" University of Galaţi signed six bilateral agreements with prestigious universities in the partner country.


The method of introducing plastics in the composition of asphalt, an innovative solution, which aims to solve the problem of plastic pollution found by a team of researchers from "Dunarea de Jos" University of Galati, received the Gold Medal in the 14 - Edition of the "Euroinvent" Salon - European Exhibition of Creativity and Innovation, Iași, 2022.
 


An interdisciplinary team of researchers from Romania and the Republic of Moldova, consisting of Victor Romeo IONESCU from "Dunarea de Jos" University of Galati (DJUG), Monica Laura ZLATI from "Stefan cel Mare" University of Suceava, Valentin Marian ANTOHI (DJUG), Silvius STANCIU (DJUG), Svetlana MIHAILA from Academy of Economic Studies of Moldova, Galina BADICU from Academy of Economic Studies of Moldova, won the Silver Medal at the 14th Edition of the European Exhibition of Creativity and Innovation EUROINVENT, Iași, 26-28 May 2022.


The students of the Faculty of Engineering participated, between May 24-26, 2022, in the 11th Edition of the National Conference of Students and Students in the Field of Engineering Sciences, Tehnonav Junior, organized by "Ovidius" University of Constanța. The students from Galaţi presented three works, two of which were appreciated by the members of the jury as being very valuable.


From Paper Boat (a competition of boats made exclusively from paper, which had to stay afloat, with small steel weights on board), they went to build the first life-size boat, made of plastic cans, to float on Lake Brates, full of passengers. These are the first-year students from the Faculty of Naval Architecture of "Dunarea de Jos" University of Galați, who built, in five weeks, a plastic can boat 2.5 meters long, 1.7 meters wide, 0.7 meters high, weighs 36 kilograms, which allows two people to board.


The Faculty of Automation, Computer Sciences, Electronics, and Electrical Engineering, was successfully represented at the fourth edition of the "PIC4ALL Microcontroller Contest", organized by the Maritime University of Constanța in collaboration with Microchip, on May 13, 2022. This year's edition was a hybrid, the participants being undergraduate and master's students from universities in Constanta, Galati, Iasi, and Bucharest.
 


"Dunarea de Jos" University of Galati will host the International Festival for local/traditional products from the SE area of ​​the Black Sea. The action is organized within the project LOC FOOD ("Local development and cross border cooperation in the area of ​​agricultural products and traditional food") - BSB 1101 (www.locfood.eu).
