The geographical emblem of Europe is a cultural-historical landmark for many peoples to whom it has given food or even survival resources. Danube River is also the center of an ecosystem that ensures the existence of an impressive number of plants and animal species, some unique in Europe or the world.

The International Danube Day annually celebrates the common spiritual history of an important part of the old continent, the symbol of vitality and endurance through time, sublimated in the fluid volutes of the river as well as its regenerating force.

The academic community of "Dunărea de Jos" University of Galați celebrates this day with actions dedicated to protecting the environment and biodiversity of the Danube River basin, preserving endangered plant and animal species as well as raising awareness of the essential role that the river has it for each of us and for each community whose territory it crosses.

In this sense, the REXDAN project - in which a research ship and a series of fixed laboratories will be built which will allow the development of interdisciplinary research activities, involving international teams of specialists is a model of good practices in the field of environmental protection and, at the same time, a tribute to the Danube by a scientific community dedicated to its work.
