Application procedure for students from the European Union, European Economic Space and Swiss Confederation for Medical Studies


Information regarding the registration for the admission procedure for citizens from European Union member states, citizens from the European Economic Space and from the Swiss Confederation for medical studies.
 
Citizens from European Union member states, citizens from the European Economic Space and from the Swiss Confederation have access to all study programmes, under the same condition provided by the law as Romanian citizens, after their studies carried out in their country of origin have been recognized.

The study recognition is done by the National Center for Recognition and Equivalence of Diplomas.

PREPARATORY YEAR

Since in “Dunarea de Jos” University of Galati the teaching language is Romanian, foreign citizens from European Union member states will be registered for undergraduate and postgraduate studies only after graduating the Romanian language preparatory year on the basis of a certificate proving Romanian linguistic competences. During the preparatory year the candidates will learn the necessary Romanian language vocabulary as well as the specific vocabulary needed for the future studies (anatomy, physics, chemistry, etc.).

To be able to attend the Preparatory Year, a candidate from an EU member state should first have his/her high school diploma evaluated by the Romanian Ministry of Education.

The fee for the Romanian Preparatory Year is 1980 euros.

2. Baccalaureate (High school) diploma – certified copy:
  • copy if the study document is issued in Romanian, English, French, Spanish, Italian;
  • copy and legalized translation (in original) in Romanian for documents issued in other foreign languages.
This document must be endorsed by the Hague Apostille.

3. High school transcript of records – certified translation:
  • copy if the study document is issued in Romanian, English, French, Spanish, Italian;
  • copy and legalized translation (in original) in Romanian for documents issued in other foreign languages.
This document must be endorsed by the Hague Apostille.

4. Birth certificate – certified translation;

5. Passport – copy;

6. Medical certificate - in an international language - confirming that the person who is going to enroll does not suffer from contagious diseases or other conditions incompatible with the future profession.

7. Invoice of the file processing fee 50 RON.

Submitting the documents for enrolling at Undergraduate medical studies

Citizens of European Union member states, from the European Economic Space and of the Swiss Confederation are admitted by evaluating the school performance and personal achievements after their school studies have been recognized.
 
The study recognition is done by the National Center for Recognition and Equivalence of Diplomas.

Admitted candidates by file evaluation can study based on tuition fee on the entire study period.

The file evaluation of the candidates is done by a committee, constituted at the faculty’s level, which will analyze the documents within the candidate’s file.

After the evaluation procedure, the files, which are eligible, are sent for recognition to the National Center for Recognition and Equivalence of Diplomas. After the files are evaluated by the National Center for Recognition and Equivalence of Diplomas, a certificate is issued which gives the candidate the right to attend university studies in Romania.  

Selection criteria:
  1. Taking the high school exam (baccalaureate examination) in biology or chemistry, or
  2. Graduating an accredited high school in the country of origin that has biology or chemistry in the discipline curriculum, or
  3. The minimum grade of the high school exam (baccalaureate examination) must be at least 70% of the theoretical maximum grade of the exam in the country in which the candidate graduated high school;
  4. Proof of knowing the Romanian language (Romanian Language Certificate);
  5. C.V. with experience and skills in the field of medicine and pharmacy or related;
  6. Letters of recommendation or proof of voluntary activities in the medical-pharmaceutical or related fields
The candidates’ files, who request enrollment at the study programs of Medicine, Dental medicine, Pharmacy, General medical assistance, Midwives and Dental technology, will be submitted to the university’s registry.

Required documents:
1. Europass C.V. in Romanian – 2 copies;

2. Baccalaureate (High school) diploma or equivalent – 2 legal copies and 2 legal translations;
Original diplomas from Italy, Greece, Spain, Portugal and Cyprus will have the Hague Apostille.
Original diplomas issued in states that are not part of the Hague Convention Apostille will be authenticated by:
a. the Ministry of National Education and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from the issuing country, the Embassy/ the Consular Office of Romania in the issuing country and by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania or by;
b. the Ministry of National Education from the issuing country, the Embassy/ the Consular Office of the issuing country in Romania and by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania.

The certificate of passing the Baccalaureate from Italy, Pruebas de Aptitud para el Acceso a la Universidad, calificación Apto from Spain and the certificate for the national exams for general high school (Panellinies Exetaseis) from Greece will have the Hague Apostille.

3. Academic records for all the high school years (classes 9 – 12/13) and for the Baccalaureate (High school) exam - 2 legal copies and 2 legal translations of each original document;

4. Personal ID document – copy; passport (valid at least 6 months from the time of submitting the file) – copies of pages 1, 2, 3, 4 or another ID document proving the citizenship of a member state of the European Union, the European Economic Area or the Swiss Confederation;

5. Birth certificate – 2 legal copies;

6. Medical certificate proving that the person who is going to enroll at studies does not suffer from contagious diseases or other conditions incompatible with the future profession – 2 legal copies and 2 legal translations;

7. Romanian Language Certificate – 2 legal copies;

8. Receipt of payment the file evaluation fee – 50 euros;

9. Application form – Annex 1 – 2 copies;

10. Application form – Annex 2 – 2 copies;

11. 6 ID photos;

12. Letter of recommendation or proof of voluntary activities in the medical-pharmaceutical or related fields – 2 legal copies and 2 legal translations of the original document.

Citizens of the Member States of the European Union, of the countries belonging to the European Economic Area and of the Swiss Confederation may be admitted to medical studies under the same conditions as Romanian candidates, i.e. if they pass an admission test (multiple-choice type test):

Medicine Organic chemistry and Biology (11th grade high school course books) Multiple-choice test with 100 questions, in 3 hours with subjects from:
  • Biology - 60 questions
  • Organic chemistry - 40 questions
The final admission average is calculated as:
  • 100% test grade
Dental medicine
Pharmacy Multiple-choice test with 100 questions, in 3 hours with subjects from:
  • Organic chemistry - 60 questions
  • Biology - 40 questions
The final admission average is calculated as:
  • 100% test grade
General medical assistance Biology (11th grade high school course books) Multiple-choice test with 100 questions, in 3 hours with subjects from:
  • Biology - 100 questions
The final admission average is calculated as:
  • 100% test grade
Midwives
Dental technology

The documents requested for the admission tests are the same as for the Romanian preparatory year + the Romanian language certificate. The application period is the same as for the Romanian candidates.

If admitted, depending on the final admission average grade, candidates of the Member States of the European Union, of the countries belonging to the European Economic Area and of the Swiss Confederation may have to pay tuition fees as Romanian students or even no fees at all (state budget-funding).
