As part of the scientific collaboration between the ITCM Research Center, represented by Professor Viorel Păunoiu, Ph.D., Center Director, Department of Manufacturing Engineering / Faculty of Engineering - "Dunărea de Jos" University of Galati (Romania), and the National Institute of Applied Sciences of Rennes (INSA Rennes, France), a series of experimental and numerical research activities were conducted from June 24 to July 12, 2024. This collaboration was facilitated by the visit of Associate Professor Adinel Gavruș, Ph.D., and focused on machinability by chipping under severe conditions of special materials for the aeronautical and biomedical industries.
The research was carried out using the HAAS ITCM/UGAL CNC automatic milling machine, equipped with a piezoelectric device for measuring forces and moments, with the support of Eng. Researcher Valentin Tăbăcaru and Professor Virgil Teodor, Ph.D. The presence of Associate Professor Adinel Gavruș, Ph.D. at our institution opens medium-term prospects for a tripartite collaboration in the field of innovative processes of plastic deformation machining and innovative studies of chipping processes among INSA Rennes (France), ITCM/UGAL Galati (Romania), and Université de Lorraine/Arts et Métiers ENSAM Metz - LARIOPAC/LEM3 UMR CNRS 7239 (France).
We extend our thanks to our partners, AEROSTAR SA Bacău (Romania), INSA Rennes (France), and LARIOPAC/LEM3 - Université de Lorraine/ENSAM Metz (France), for providing metallic samples of aluminum and titanium. This collaboration is a result of the academic, scientific, and pedagogical cooperation between INSA Rennes (France) and ITCM/UGAL Galați (Romania) that began in 2006. This partnership has also materialized through the organization of the International Scientific Conferences NEWTECH 2020 in Galați (Romania), chaired by Professor Viorel Păunoiu (https://www.newtech2020.ugal.ro/), and NEWTECH 2022 in INSA Rennes (France), chaired by Associate Professor Adinel Gavruș (https://newtech2022.sciencesconf.org/).
