The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Representation in Romania, in partnership with "Dunarea de Jos" University of Galati, is organizing a ceremony to mark World Refugee Day. This event will take place on 19 June, starting at 10:00, in the Aula Magna "Alexandru Ioan Cuza" M Building, 111 Domneasca Street.
Under the slogan "For a world in which refugees are welcome" this year's ceremony aims to show solidarity with refugees and to raise public awareness of the need for collective action to build an inclusive society that upholds the dignity and hope of refugees.
At the event's opening, a short film will introduce the audience to the experiences and stories of refugees. The second part of the ceremony will feature performances by local refugee communities, with music, dance, and artistic expressions celebrating cultural diversity and unity.
Romania's participation in such events is a powerful gesture of solidarity, symbolizing a commitment to upholding these values. Together, we can convey a message of unity in removing the remaining barriers to integrating refugees in Galati, reaffirming our openness to building a world that can integrate refugees into the local community.
