During the 40th edition of the Conference on Fluid Mechanics and Technical Applications "Caius Iacob", on October 19-20, 2023, organized by the National Institute for Aerospace Research "Elie Carafoli" – INCAS Bucharest (under the aegis of the Romanian Academy and ISMMA – Institute of Mathematical Statistics and Applied Mathematics of the Romanian Academy), the best papers were awarded,  doctoral theses, dissertation and bachelor papers, registered in the contests "Caius Iacob", "Tipei" and "Vasilca".

These awards aim to encourage the training of young people in cutting-edge research fields (fluid mechanics, lubrication and flight dynamics, advanced materials tribology). The prizes are awarded by committees made up of professors and researchers renowned in the field.

The "Vasilca" Award is awarded by the Vasilca family, represented by Eng. George Vasilca and Eng. Dan Vasilca, residents in the USA, in partnership with the National Institute for Aerospace Research and Development "Elie Carafoli" – INCAS Bucharest, starting with 2018. The evaluation committee included dr. eng. Mihai-Victor Pricop – president of the evaluation committee (INCAS Bucharest), prof. dr. eng. Sorin Cananau (Politehnica, Bucharest), prof. dr. eng. Horia Iovu (Politehnica, Bucharest), assoc. prof. dr. eng. Laurentiu Moraru (Politehnica, Bucharest), prof. dr. eng. Razvan George Ripeanu, Oil and Gas University Ploiesti), prof. dr. eng. Andrei Tudor (Politehnica, Bucharest), dr. eng. Sorin Radnef (INCAS Bucharest).

This year, the Vasilca prize was awarded to dr. eng. Guglea Dionis, from the Doctoral School of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering of the "Dunarea de Jos" University of Galati, with the thesis entitled "Evaluation of the tribological behavior of some lubricants based on rapeseed oil and nanoadditives (hexagonal boron nitride and graphene), defended in 2022, having as scientific coordinator prof. dr. eng. Lorena Deleanu.
