On Monday, October 2, in the Aula "Al. I. Cuza" took place the opening ceremony of the academic year 2023-2024, in the presence of the representatives of the academic environment, officials, students and parents. The officials were Mr. Claudiu GAVRIL, Prefect of Galati County, Mr. Costel FOTEA, President of Galati County Council, Mr. Ionut PUCHEANU, Mayor of Galati, and His Eminence Dr. Casian CRACIUN, Archbishop of the Lower Danube, who sent messages for students and teachers at the beginning of the academic year.
"We went through a difficult year, a difficult period, in the best conditions, with the University’s management and our community partners by our side. In 2023 we also celebrated 75 years of higher education in Galati, we had the National Council of Rectors, many inaugurations, but we also dealt with the human resource, the most important component of DJUG. We have maintained and increased our position in international rankings, and this is all credit to the academic community. We begin a new academic year, which we wish to be better, under the symbol of the Parable of the Sower, which we heard today in the Cathedral of the Archdiocese of the Lower Danube. We also plant in our students the buds of wisdom, knowledge and goodness of soul and wait five or six years for a harvest to come out that we give to the world, to spiritually nourish the space in which they arrive. We want an academic year full of achievements, with health, achievements!", said the Rector of DJUG in his speech addressed to the guests.
"We must listen wisely to young people, who are highly learned, and they hold the key to the realities of today's society. The key is with young people. As teachers, we will be listened to, when we will know how to listen more to the enthusiasm, desires, energy, vigor of our young people", said His Eminence Casian Craciun, Archbishop of the Lower Danube.”
„The University is the place where you will explore new areas, develop skills, and live experiences that will benefit you throughout your life. I am convinced, knowing the rigor, involvement, and dedication of your teachers, that you will be able to face all challenges and that you will learn to be not only professionals, but also people on whom we will be able to rely in the future" - Prefect of Galati, Claudiu GAVRIL.
„Where there is a university, there is also development, education, another standard of living and civilization. You are lucky to have chosen DJUG and I want to thank your parents, who are by your side, because I was also a student and I know what their effort means. Every day of study and every lesson means a chance to grow, learn and discover new talents and passions. I wish you all a memorable academic year, full of inspiration and remarkable achievements!" - Costel FOTEA, President of CJ Galati.
"I think it's the most beautiful opening of the academic year I've seen so far! I congratulate you for choosing ”Dunarea de Jos” University of Galati. It is our duty, those in the City Hall, to make the students' stay pleasant even when they are not in the University. We are striving in this regard, in attracting European funds, in order to keep you safe, here in Galati, for Galati, to be the first option when choosing your future job", believes Mayor Ionut PUCHEANU.
"There is a great vibe in this room, inaugurated today. It is our privilege to work with new generations every year. For first-year students, a short message: learn from yesterday's world, to make choices in tomorrow's world! Emphasize the power of faith, science, the importance of hope and determination, the need for solidarity and humanity! I've said it before, there are two fundamental moments in life: the moment you are born and the moment you know what you were born for. You were also born to be students of DJUG! We assure you that the soil here and the toilers who water and care for it will make the seeds, which are, in fact, you, grow in good conditions", said, in his turn, the President of the University Senate, prof. Catalin FETECAU, PhD.
"Dear students, I recommend you relate to each other, to communicate as much as possible! Last year I told you that it's important to allow yourself to make as many mistakes as you want and learn from. I made a lot of mistakes and that helped me develop. I realized, from everything, how well I could do certain things. Get involved in volunteering, go to college, get involved in the activities of NGOs, which do not belong to the university. Gain experience to help you", Alexandru VLAD, president of the Galati Students League, told them.
