The seniors of the University for Seniors - U3A of DJUG marked today the closing of the academic year in dance steps. After the festive course, which took place in Aula Magna "Al. I Cuza" from the Science Campus, students attending U3A courses made a real demonstration of rhythm and coordination, which culminated in a synchronized choreography on "No communication", at the end of which students threw their heels in the air.

In the opening of the event, Professor Florin TUDOR, coordinator of the U3A program, congratulated the seniors and wished them an active holiday, especially since today the gates of the third edition of the U3A Summer School are open. After a moment of silence, held in memory of those who left earlier beyond the blue, the professor wanted to thank DJUG management, colleagues participating in the project, His Eminence Casian, Archbishop of the Lower Danube, and, finally, the "V.A. Urechia" Library (BVAU) and other Galati institutions for permanent support, hosting courses and organizing unique activities dedicated to senior students.

"U3A is a project as timely as it is complex, meant to improve the mood of the elderly, by involving them in various activities. This academic year was under the sign of culture: over 70 activities were organized on various topics (Art History, Culture and Civilization, Romanian women we are proud of), book launches, participation in exhibitions, folk music evenings, film festival, a reading club was established at BVAU and, why not, dance lessons were organized for our students. We need to change mentalities: it's never too late to learn something, and retirement should be seen as a great opportunity to put into practice the ideas, the goals set", said Professor Florin TUDOR.

The University for Seniors – U3A opened its doors in October 2016 at the initiative of DJUG. This pioneering project in Romania, which places seniors at the center of its actions, built according to a model of French origin and adapted to the cultural and academic space in Romania, aims to be a form of lifelong learning, social inclusion, intergenerational dialogue and valorization and valorization of human potential. Currently, at the University of Seniors - U3A, students can follow, for one year, subjects of interest such as: law; medicine, art, culture and civilization, history, philosophy and theology, nutrition, and food science. U3A seniors also have a monthly magazine called "Seniors' Time".

For seven years, over 600 elderly people from Galati and Braila graduated from the U3A . And the story continues!
