The Faculty of Letters within the DJUG organized again, this year, at the initiative of Professor Antoanela Mardar Ph.D. a multilingual and multicultural workshop dedicated to winter celebrations and entitled, suggestively, Winter Celebrations around the World.

Special guests of this event, co-organized by Associate Professor Elena Costandache Ph.D. from the Department of Language and Literature and French and Reading, Lecturer Lidia Necula Ph.D. from the Department of English, there were Fulbright Lecturer Amy Biedermann, Italian Language Lecturer Carla Dodi, Chinese Language Lecturer Danyao Xie, and, last but not least, FLE Lecturer Zouhair Hariq, who was the very active representative and involved of AUF within the Faculty of Letters of DJUG during October 2018 - May 2022.

The presentations of guest lecturers and students from the 2nd and 3rd years brought to the foreground new information about traditions and winter customs specific to different geographical areas from the entire map module. There were presentations about Christmas in the Victorian period, the meaning of the winter solstice among the Celts, Christmas music in Italy, year-end wishes and the organization of the Spring Festival in China, Romanian carols, but also about seasonal dishes and desserts, possible ecological gifts and especially, ways to celebrate Christmas through good deeds.

The activity ended with the awarding ceremony of diplomas for the students participating in the workshop and for the "messengers of Santa Claus" who will bring this year the joy of Christmas to the souls of several children from Pechea, beneficiaries of the Day Center of the "Inimă de Copil" Foundation from Galati.

"We are trying to motivate our students to practice their knowledge of English or French by engaging in extracurricular activities and getting involved in campaigns aimed at helping the local community and facilitating their integration into the labor market after graduation. Now in its 5th edition, the workshop enjoyed the presence and involvement of a very large number of students from all the study programs of the faculty, and this fact can only make us very happy", explained Professor Antoanela Mardar Ph.D., vice-dean of the Faculty of Letters.
