UI Green Metric World University is an Universitas Indonesia initiative launched in 2010 to highlight universities actively involved in reducing carbon emissions and combating global climate change.

The Green Metric World University UI ranking saw a significant increase in participants, from 95 universities in 35 countries in 2010 to 956 universities in 84 countries in 2021.

For ranking, 39 indicators and six criteria related to the management and infrastructure of the university campus, energy, and climate change, waste, water, transport, and education are used.
 
At the UI Green Metric World University 2021 edition, the “Dunarea de Jos” University of Galati occupied the 745th position globally and the 8th place in the ranking of Romanian universities.
