Researchers from the Faculty of Food Science and Engineering, from the "Dunarea de Jos" University of Galati, participated in the second edition of INOVALIMENT and won several awards. INOVALIMENT is the only fair in Romania dedicated exclusively to the promotion of research-development-innovation activities in the food field, and the theme of this edition was Food Technologies aimed at increasing the quality of life.
 
The Faculty of Food Science and Engineering within the "Dunarea de Jos" University of Galati participated with eight papers entered in the competition and a presentation at the scientific conferences, and four of these papers were awarded.
 
Thus, in the "Innovation" category, the first prize went to Carmen Bolea Ph.D., for the work "Co-microencapsulation of anthocyanins in black rice and lactic acid bacteria". Another work awarded with the third prize is "Sustainable valorization of onion peels, for the development of innovative functional ingredients", belonging to doctoral student Adelina Milea. Also, in the "Innovation" category, the Faculty of Food Science and Engineering received a Mention for the paper "Innovative solutions for diversifying the range of functional bakery products with extended microbiological stability" written by doctoral student Pacularu Burada.
 
In the "Biotechnologies" category, the Faculty of Food Science and Engineering won the first prize for research "Valorization of by-products resulting from the processing of blueberries for obtaining bio-ingredients with uses in the food industry" belonging to Nicoleta Dermengiu, a second-year student at the Master of Food Science and Engineering.
 
More than 40 researchers and food specialists participated in INOVALIMENT, an event that took place online between November 22-26. The aim of the fair is to support and promote food innovations and to connect the academic environment with the socio-economic one, in order to facilitate technology transfer. The event is organized annually by the Dan Voiculescu Foundation for the Development of Romania, in partnership with the Faculty of Food Science and Engineering of "Dunarea de Jos" University of Galați, Faculty of Food Science and Technology of University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine Cluj, and the Romanian Inventors Forum.
