Professor Puiu-Lucian GEORGESCU, Ph.D., the Rector of “Dunarea de Jos” University of Galati visited the Republic of Moldova, between 10 and 11 of February, where he was accompanied by a delegation formed by Associate professor Gina Aurora NECULA, Ph.D., the Dean of the Cross-Border Faculty, Associate professor Mariana Carmelia Bălănică-Dragomir, Ph.D., Head of the Department of Applied Sciences within the Cross-Border Faculty and Mr. Ionel Constantin MITEA, university assistant within the same faculty.

The activity was part of the efforts to consolidate the strategic projects that the university develops in the Republic of Moldova through the Cross-Border Faculty and had three components:

- punctual approach to issues of common interest regarding ongoing projects with the university’s partners from Chișinău, Cahul and Comrat as well as those that may be initiated in the future;
- institutional representation, being the first visit to the Republic of Moldova of Professor Puiu-Lucian GEORGESCU, as Rector of the university;
- relationship with institutional partners, other than those in the academic environment which may be the subject of partnerships in areas of common interest.

On February 10 the Romanian delegation had meetings with the rectors and management teams of four higher education institutions from Chișinău with which the university already develops joint educational projects or with which it intends to initiate new partnerships:  “Ion Creangă” State Pedagogical University, Academy of Economic Studies of Moldova, State Agrarian University of Moldova, The State University of Physical Education and Sport.

In the first part of February 11, the delegation participated in the festivity that marked 30 years since the establishment of Comrat State University in the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia. Professor Puiu-Lucian GEORGESCU congratulated the rector of Comrat State University, Professor Serghei Zaharia, and offered him a plaque from “Dunarea de Jos” University of Galati.

In the second part of the day, the delegation was received by the Consul General of Romania in Cahul, His Excellency Anca Corfu and by the Bishop of Southern Bessarabia, His Holiness Veniamin. The presence at the headquarters of the Diocese of Cahul offered the happy opportunity to hold interesting discussions, in an extended format, attended by Nicolae Dandiș, mayor of Cahul and Sergiu Cornea, Rector of “Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu” State University.

In the dialogues with the head of the Romanian consular office in Cahul, with the local mayor and with Bishop Veniamin, an attempt was made to identify opportunities for collaboration and partnership, which could add value to the support efforts for young people in south of the Republic of Moldova.

The discussions with the partners from the academic and university environment carried out during both days, included several technical aspects, regarding: the development of new study programs adapted to the realities of the Republic of Moldova and the CIS space, the possibility of involving the Cross-Border Faculty in new partnerships, involving European funding for valuable research, the launch of new projects in the field of lifelong learning, the consolidation of ongoing projects that have proved their effectiveness, etc.

The visit of the Romanian delegation to the Republic of Moldova was a productive one and consolidated the position of “Dunarea de Jos” University of Galati on all levels of activity and representation in the Republic of Moldova.
