In addition to the top’s impact on career, which we referred to in a previous presentation, researchers at Standford University have published another ranking of the most influential scientists in the world, in various fields. In this case, data is presented and analyzed regarding the impact of research in 2019. In this top you can also find doctor Alin Laurențiu Tatu, from Galati, teacher at the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy, which is listed with no less than 150 articles in extenso.

„The indexed works ISI Clarivate, Scopus but also in other BDI were taken into account. The citations, the Hirsch Index, the works published in Journals number 1 and number 2 in Dermatology with high impact factor, as well as the existence of articles with a single author and 7 chapters published in 2 books edited by Springer Nature. I think that there are gathered around 150 articles in extensor, published between 2016 and until today ", explained the doctor Alin Laurențiu Tatu.

He says that usually the research activity is difficult and involves a lot of effort, but in his case the scientific curiosity also mattered a lot.

"It has always been difficult, in the sense of effort, especially since I was always constrained by time and money, but the most important thing for me was the scientific curiosity, the desire to understand and connect sometimes interdisciplinary phenomena in the dynamic context of clinical observation, coupled with the international flow of information. Fundamental research is good, but the application of research results in medical practice - translational medicine - becomes a necessity, an observable phenomenon especially in critical situations or without pre-existing solutions ", said Professor Alin Laurențiu Tatu.

His research activity was carried out in optimal conditions and due to the facilities that the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy within "Dunarea de Jos" University of Galati has. In fact, the activity will soon start in the new hospital unit, a new and ultramodern Clinical Section of Dermatology & Venerology, which will operate within the Clinical Hospital for Infectious Diseases "Saint Parascheva" in Galati, where students, residents and doctoral students will be able to discover practical ways of learning and working.

"Exploratory doctoral research and teaching activity, especially in terms of existing facilities (Confocal Microscopy Equipment with in vivo laser scanning, Coherent Optical Tomography, Total Body Mapping, Digital Dermoscopy, CO2 Laser, Radiofrequency, Cryotherapy), will be able to develop amplified research activity. I rely heavily on the support and expertise of  "Dunarea de Jos" University of Galati, for the establishment of a Center of Excellence in Dermatological Imaging, thus capitalizing and amplifying the existing facilities at this time ", said doctor Alin Laurentiu Tatu.

I asked the professor from Galati how he sees the future of Romanian Medicine: “The future of Romanian Medicine is very promising. The medicine of the future is a medicine integrated with technological advances, including Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Blockchain but also with human qualities that can be developed and cultivated through formative, creative education and empathy”.

Although he believes that he is not able to give advice to young researchers, Alin Laurențiu Tatu still recommends them “not to make a goal of themselves in these rankings, but to aim high in research and publication of results, to work both individually - to fight with their own constraints, turmoil and frustration, but to collaborate permanently interdisciplinary and to keep the childish joy of obtaining a research result or a simple synthetic observation, but with complex content”.

"My ephemerality, modesty and education say that I am not able to give advice, being convinced that there are much more valuable researchers in Romania who may not have had the chance to be published or known yet", concluded prof. Univ. dr. Alin Laurențiu Tatu.

We must mention that in this ranking, made by Standford University there are also, from “Dunarea de Jos” University of Galati, professors Eugen Rusu (located right in the first half of the top), Liliana Rusu and Lidia Benea. Almost 150 university professors from Romania are present in this top.
