March 20th, 2020, is the day when the academic community of “Dunarea de Jos” University of Galati celebrates 72 years of existence, when the Faculty of Land Improvements was established - the first step towards building this powerful center for creating and promoting science, technology and culture that brings together today, 14 faculties with profiles covering a wide variety of fields.

By the University Charter, this holiday is also one of the entire community of Galati, not only because it honors the existence of the largest higher education institution in the South-East of Romania, which research performance is well known, but also through the happy coincidence by the birth, 200 years ago, of prince Alexandru Ioan Cuza.

Born in Bârlad, the first ruler of Romania was a burgrave of Galați, his personality being found in the collective memory of people and places - the university campus bears his name, the ruler’s residence in Galați is one of the city’s most important museums, a prestigious high school in Galați shares the spiritual legacy of the emblematic gentleman – “Al. I. Cuza” National College, and an impressive statue and a street perpetuates his memory.

In the context of the special prevention measures adopted at national level, the activities scheduled for celebrating this year's University Day will be postponed, but, in the spirit of this double anniversary, we send to all students, professors and administrative staff warm wishes for many years, health, work power and accomplishments!
