HydroEcoNex international network, composed of: Institute of Zoology, Ministry of Education, Culture and Research, Chisinau, Republic of Moldova (Leader Partner) and the partner institutions – International Association of River Keepers „Eco-Tiras” (Chisinau, Republic of Moldova), "Dunarea de Jos" University of Galati (Romania), the Ukrainian Scientific Center of Ecology of the Sea (Odessa, Ukraine), and the Hydrometeorological Center for Black and Azov Seas (Odessa, Ukraine) - organised on 28th of November 2018 at "Dunarea de Jos" University of Galati, Faculty of Sciences and Environment, the launching seminar of the project with the eMS code BSB165, entitled „CREATING A SYSTEM OF INNOVATIVE TRANSBOUNDARY MONITORING OF THE TRANSFORMATIONS OF THE BLACK SEA RIVER ECOSYSTEMS UNDER THE IMPACT  OF HYDROPOWER DEVELOPMENT AND CLIMATE CHANGE”.

The project is financed by the European Union through  European Neighborhood Instrument (ENI) - Cross-border cooperation (CBC) - in the frame of the Joint Operational Programme BLACK SEA BASIN 2014-2020, Priority 2 – Promote coordination of environmental protection and joint reduction of marine litter in the Black Sea Basin, Specific Objective 2.1 – Improve joint environmental monitoring, and has an implementation period of 30 months (21.09.2018-20.03.2021).

The total budget of the project is 896,865.00 EURO, of which the contribution of European Union is 825,115.80 Euro.

The HydroEcoNex project is focused on the development of a system of monitoring the influence of hydropower engineering on the state of environment and ecosystem services delivered by Black Sea cross-border rivers, Dniester and Prut, being of high relevance both for the three involved countries - Moldova, Romania and Ukraine - and the whole Black Sea region. There are expected new monitoring methodologies, improved knowledge for decision-makers, researchers and students, a common system of environmental indicators for the long-term cross-border monitoring of the Dniester and the Prut Rivers, a bilateral cooperation strategy, as well as a digital platform that will contribute to the dissemination of knowledge and good practices of sustainable and efficient management of the aquatic resources of rivers of cross-border importance, affected by hydrotechnical constructions and climate change.

The target groups of the project are formed by: members of the project research team, researchers, academic staff, technicians, engineers, PhD students, master and undergraduate students, decision makers, representatives of local, national and regional authorities, experts in environmental issues, NGOs.
